Dacoit with Rs 6 lakh reward killed
SATNA: Notorious dacoit Sundar Patel alias Ragia,who had a reward of Rs 6 lakh on his head,had been killed along with four accomplices in an encounter with the police in the jungle near village Hardi in Madhya Pradeshs Satna district,the police said Sunday. A team of Satna and Rewa police had laid a trap in the jungle on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Besides Sundar,the other slain dacoits were identified as Khardooshan,Natthu Mawasi,Bhola Mawasi and Shripal Mawasi.
Spying: Ex-Armyman sentenced to 14 yrs
FARIDKOT PUNJAB: A local court here has convicted and sentenced five persons,including an ex-Army personnel,to 14 years jail term each for spying. Naib Singh,Randhir Singh,Baldev Singh,Sukhdev Singh and ex-army man Manjinder Singh were handed down the sentence by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge,Ramesh Kumari here Saturday. The trial of the case started in March 2000 and the convicts were charged with supplying secret and strategic information of the Indian army to Pakistani agencies. Manjinder Singh was dismissed from the service in January 2010.
Hizbul Mujahideen militant held in J-K
SRINAGAR: A Hizbul-Mujahideen militant was on Sunday arrested by security forces in north Kashmirs Baramulla district,the police said here. The militant,identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone of Khadimyar village in Baramulla,was arrested near Janbazpora,they said. A revolver and two Chinese hand-grenades were recovered from his possession,the police said.
Maoists blast building near Vizag
VISAKHAPATNAM: A building of Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation APFDC was damaged in a blast that was suspected to have been triggered by Maoists early Sunday morning at Cherpalli village,the police said. The Police suspect that the Maoists could have damaged the building to protest against the bauxite mining activities in the agency area. The Maoists also resorted to road blockades at Jerrela village by cutting trees.
4 killed in road mishap in Andhra
SANGAREDDY: Four persons including three women died on the spot while 36 others of a marriage party sustained injuries when a van,in which they were travelling,overturned near Kishtapur village in Andhra Pradesh early Sunday,the police said. The mishap occurred when they were returning after attending a marriage reception from Yellareddy in Nizamabad district. Twelve persons who suffered series injuries were shifted to Gandhi hospital at Hyderabad while the other 24 who had minor injuries were taken to a hospital at Narsapur.
