I-T officer is Jamp;Ks first CIC

SRINAGAR: Ghulam Rasool Sofi,an Income Tax official from a humble background,will be Jamp;Ks first Chief Information Commissioner. Sofi beat former Additional DGP Ashok Bhan and former bureaucrat Santokh Ram to the post. Sofi is currently Chief Commissioner,Income Tax. He retires in April.

Chopra has Rs 6 crore worth illegal assets

MUMBAI: The Income Tax raid at Priyanka Chopras house has revealed the actor has unaccounted assets worth Rs six crore,an I-T official said on Thursday. We found that assets worth Rs 6 crore were not accounted for, the official said.

Dalit girl raped,murdered in UP

Lucknow: Arti,a teenaged Dalit girl,was allegedly raped and killed on the outskirts of Lucknow,police said Thursday. Though there were injuries on her body,the autopsy report did not mention rape leading to allegations of foul play. A second post mortem confirmed rape.

Afzal Guru wants to be shifted to Jamp;K jail

NEW DELHI: Mohd Afzal Guru,who is awaiting death penalty in Tihar Jail for plotting the terror attack on Parliament in 2001,has moved the Supreme Court for shifting him to a jail in Jamp;K. In his petition,Guru has pleaded that he be shifted to a jail in his native state as it would be convenient to his family members.

Provide Sohrabuddin case papers to Gujarat

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the CBI to provide to Gujarat and the accused persons with documents relied upon by it for transferring trial in Sohrabuddin case outside the state. The court later posted the matter to February 23.
