Kamla demands CBI probe into husbands killing
Lucknow: Kamla Devi,whose husband revenue inspector Ram Kumar Yadav was allegedly murdered by BSP MLA Chandra Bhadra Singh for refusing to persuade her to withdraw from panchayat poll fray,on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder,alleging she was being threatened by the MLA. The MLA is asking people to make me resign from the gram pradhans post in two months time or else I would face the same fate as my husband, Kamla alleged. UP to give 2 lakh free power connections
Muzaffarnagar: Uttar Pradesh has decided to provide free power connections to about two lakh BPL families and sanctioned Rs 44 crore for the same,officials said on Thursday. About 6,000 of these connections will be provided in Muzaffarnagar district. Each free connection would cost the state Rs 2,200.
2 UP ministers face Lokayukta inquiry
LUCKNOW: The Lokayukta has started an inquiry against two senior Uttar Pradesh ministers Higher Education Minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi and Secondary Education Minister Rangnath Misra for allegedly amassing massive wealth. Tripathi has been accused of purchasing properties worth over Rs 250 crore,besides agriculture land,and Misra is charged with acquiring properties worth Rs 360 crore,officials said.
Staines case: CBI wants death for Dara
NEW DELHI: The CBI Thursday appealed to the Supreme Court to award death sentence to Dara Singh,the main accused in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons by a mob in Orissa in 1999. It was not a simple conspiracy,but a dastardly conspiracy in which three innocent hapless victims were beaten and burnt alive in the car, CBI counsel,Additional Solicitor General Vivek Tankha,told the court.
Rays Sikkim now in copyright row
KOLKATA: Nearly four decades after it was made,Satyajit Rays controversial documentary film Sikkim was finally screened,only to be pulled out after just one show at the Kolkata Film Festival. Alleging violation of copyright laws,Gangtok-based Art and Culture Trust had got a stay order on the screening of the film. East and North Sikkim district judge S W Lepcha gave the order on a petition by Atul Kaura,secretary of Art and Culture Trust of Sikkim.

2 tigers found dead in Kaziranga
Guwahati: Forest Department officials Thursday found two tiger carcasses in Kaziranga National Park. One of the carcasses is said to be highly decomposed while the other is presumed to have been killed Wednesday night. All the body parts have been found to be intact in both the cases indicating they are cases of natural death, said Divisional Forest Officer Dibyadhar Gogoi.
