MoEF to strengthen CRZ notification
NEW DELHI: In order to ensure better protection of Indias coastline from damage due to developmental or industrial activities,the Environment Ministry is seeking to strengthen the Coastal Regulation Zone CRZ notification,proposing to bring the area under sea within the ambit of regulation and,making room for special consideration for certain areas like Navi Mumbai and Kerala. The ministry wants to recognise the importance of aquatic area in maintaining the functional integrity of the coastline,including the biodiversity lying therein.
Court dismisses Madanis bail plea
BANGALORE: Citing security interests of the state and the country,a court here on Monday dismissed the bail plea of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani,an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blast case. The fast track court said the material produced by the prosecution so far revealed that there was a prima facie case against Madani. Since probe was under progress and allegations against Madani came under the purview of the Unlawful Activities Act,the bail cannot be granted,Judge Shrikant Watawati said.
TN starts swine flu vaccine initiative
CHENNAI: Alarmed by the large number of Swine flu cases reported among doctors and paramedics,the Tamil Nadu government launched a vaccination programme on Monday,an initiative that was taken after the state recorded three deaths in the last one week. The initiative was launched by Health Minister MRK Panneerselvam on Monday. The vaccine costing Rs 150 to Rs 200,is to be administered either through injection or as nasal spray.
Another Kerala church backs lecturers ouster
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An another prominent church in Kerala on Monday backed the dismissal of lecturer T J Joseph,who lost his hand in an attack by a radical group,but said he can seek a lenient approach by expressing regret or exploring legal means. Syro Malanakara Catholic Church head major Archbishop Mar Baseliose Cleemis said the action against the lecturer was taken as the question paper prepared by him had hurt the sentiments of a major section in the society.
Missing Mumbai boy found murdered
MUMBAI: Hours after he went missing,a three-and-a-half-year-old boy was found murdered at Kamani area in Kurla here,the police said on Monday. The body of Rohit Singh,with a slit throat,was found last night. Rohit,a resident of Navyug Housing Society in Ghaswala compound,went missing on Sunday. A watchman found the body and informed the police.
