MEHSANA: A 25-year-old woman lecturer in Kalol Primary Teachers’ College (PTC) attempted suicide by consuming poison after she was allegedly raped by three teachers in Kadi taluka of the district. One of the three men,accused was detained for questioning on Tuesday. The lecturer consumed poison on Monday evening at Kalol State Transport Bus Depot,and was admitted to a private hospital where she was still unconscious.

17 killed in Andhra accident

WARANGAL (AP): 17 people of a marriage party,including the bridegroom,were killed and about 20 others injured when two stationary tractors were hit by a lorry here on Tuesday. The victims were returning from Beerisettigudem village and halted midway when a speeding lorry hit the tractors from behind and ran over people standing around them. 12 people were killed on the spot,while five others,died in the hospital.

HC grants interim bail to Ahlawat

CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana Inspector General of Police M S Ahlawat was on Tuesday was granted interim anticipatory bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case of alleged molestation of a Yamunanagar-based woman lawyer eight years ago. Ahlawat has been missing after his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by a Yamunanagar court on June 16. Vacation Judge Alok Singh ordered that in the event of Ahlawat’s arrest,he be released on bail and directed that he should cooperate with the investigations.

Raj gets bail in 2 more rioting cases

OSMANABAD (MAHA): MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday surrendered before a local court in two other cases of rioting registered against him in 2008 and was later released on bail. Raj was enlarged on a bail by a judicial magistrate (first class) in Kalamb taluka of Osmanabad on a bond of Rs 15,000 in both the cases. This is the tenth case of rioting in which Raj has been granted bail,his lawyer Sayaji Nangre said.

Three teens drown in Ganga

BIJNOR: Three teenaged boys drowned here when they went to take a bath in the river Ganga on the occasion of Ganga Dushehra. Billu (19),Monu (18) and Aakash (16),from nearby Meerapur village,drowned on Monday after they ventured into the deep waters. Their bodies were later fished out by the divers. Family members of the deceased accused the district administration of carelessness.

Six sentenced to life imprisonment

BHAGALPUR (BIHAR): A man and his five sons were today sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his other son in Bhagalpur district. Additional District and Sessions Judge N K Gupta found Md Ataur Rehman and his five sons guilty of killing their own brother Md Ekram at Ali Bux Lane under Nathnagar police station in the district on September 9,2008,following a family dispute. The court also slapped a fine of Rs five thousand on each of the convicts.

Man arrested for double murder

ROURKELA: The grandson of an 80-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the double murder of thewoman and her grand-daughter in Madhusudan Marg area of the city. Jagapal (21) alias Rushi was arrested on Monday. Dispute over family property was the cause of the murder,. 80-year-old Harbans Kaur used to live with her two daughters-in-law and their children after the death of her two sons.
