Aseemanand in custody till Dec 18
HYDERABAD: A local court on Thursday remanded Swami Aseemanand,an accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case,in eight-day CBI custody till December 18. The XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court allowed his custody from Friday,though the investigation agency had requested permission to interrogate him for an additional 15-day period.

SHILLONG: The first annual international conference on Sustainability: Management amp; Beyond was inaugurated at IIM Shillong on Thursday. The inauguration ceremony saw the participation of eminent personalities like noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna,who was the chief guest,and Dr Paul Srivastava,director,David O Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise,Concordia University. In his address,Bahuguna suggested simple solutions like afforestation and renewable energy.
Maoists kill three in Orissa
ROURKELA/KORAPUT: Three persons,who were suspected to be police informers by the Maoists,were allegedly killed by the rebels in separate incidents at Sundergarh and Koraput districts. Around 300 armed Maoists went to Nangalakata village bordering Salanda forest in Sundergarh district on Thursday morning and forced six villagers to walk to a school building,police sources said. They killed two of them,Anup Singh and Bisra Singh,and set the others free,leaving behind posters with warnings.
Car hits sisters: One dead,other injured
DEHRA DUN: A six-year-old girl was killed and her older sister seriously injured when they were hit by a speeding car on Thursday at Mussoorie road ,police said. The mishap took place when Bhavana,a student of class II,and her sister Mahima,a class VI student,were walking to school. Passers-by rushed the sisters to a hospital where Bhavana was declared dead. The driver,Pranjal Agrawal 20,a law student,was arrested.
Five Maoists arrested near Lalgarh
JHARGRAM WB: Five Maoists were on Thursday arrested from various places of the state,police said. Acting on a tip-off,joint forces raided the forest near Lakshmanpur of Lalgarh and arrested the three Maoist cadre including Dilip Mahato, Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma told reporters in Midnapore. Mahato is a top Maoist leader and an accused in the abduction of former officer-in-charge of Sankrail police station Atindranath Dutta, he said.
Two killed,3 injured in train collision
PURNIA BIHAR: Two persons were killed and three others injured when a speeding train collided with a tractor at an unmanned crossing near Jalalgarh railway station in Katihar division on Thursday. The speeding passenger train hit the stationary tractor on the Katihar-Jogbani section and dragged it some distance away,killing the tractor driver and a labourer on the spot,Purnia Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said.
Navy Chief on Sri Lanka visit
NEW DELHI: Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma is in Sri Lanka to take part in the 60th anniversary celebrations of the island nations navy. Verma is attending the occasion as a guest and two Indian ships INS Mysore and Tarangini are on a port visit to Colombo in association with the celebrations. The function is also being attended by the Chiefs of Australian Navy,Pakistan Navy,Bangladesh Navy,UAE Navy,and the Maldivian National Defence Force.
