Bulandshahr: A Class V student was apprehended here on Sunday after he tried to buy some eatables with a photocopied Rs 100 note,SP J K Shahi said. The owner of the shop informed the police,he said,adding the 10-year-old boy admitted to have prepared the note from the photocopier machine at his fathers grocery store in Gangrol village in the district.

Dead baby found alive

Nashik: A newborn premature baby,who was declared dead by a government-run hospital,was found alive after she started crying on the burial ground,hospital sources said on Sunday. Doctors declared Savita Pawars baby dead seeing no movements in the newborn. When the baby started crying,relatives stopped further process and returned from the spot, Savita said. Congress leader Naresh Patil has demanded action against the doctor. Nashik Municipal Corporation Commissioner will take action in the case,sources added.

105-yr-old man seeks job under NREGA

Bundi Rajasthan: A 105-year-old man has sought job under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the district,leaving the authorities pondering over his fitness to take up the work. Ranjeet Gurjar of Galliyakunwa village had on Saturday submitted an application to Nainwa panchayat samiti office for job under the scheme. The officials were perplexed as the applicant was too weak to work. The panchayat samiti has sought directions from the higher authorities in the matter.

8 babies rescued as ICU catches fire

Katni MP: Eight new-born babies were on Sunday rescued from the district hospitals children intensive care unit after a fire broke out here following a technical snag in the air conditioner,officials said. The fire broke out after electricity supply resumed after load shedding around 2.30 pm,they said adding the alert doctors and staff quickly evacuated the eight new born babies from the unit. They were shifted to another intensive care unit. ICU in-charge Dr Sobhit Choudha said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Three siblings drown in Jorhat

Jorhat Assam: Three siblings,including a girl,drowned on Sunday in a pond in Assams Jorhat district,the police said. The three,residents of Charigaon under Bhogdoi police station,had gone to take bath in a pond behind their house when they slipped into deep water. The deceased have been identified as 12-year old Hemanta Kaman,10-year old Mamu Kaman and eight-year old Bhagya Kaman,all children of a daily wage labourer. Their bodies have been sent for postmortem.

Man held for betting on IPL matches

Sirsa Haryana: Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a racket of bookies who used to place bets on IPL matches with the arrest of a person. Vinod Kumar of Ellenabad was arrested for allegedly placing bets on IPL matches and six mobile phones,six chargers,one calculator,three remotes,one recorder,colour television,two SIM cards and a register maintaining records of cricket matches was recovered from him. He was arrested after a tip-off that a person was running such a racket from his house.
