Graft case: BSY bail plea hearing adjourned
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned to September 9 hearing on an anticipatory bail plea by former CM B S Yeddyurappa in an alleged graft case. The case pertains to a private complaint filed by JDS MLC and party spokesman Y S V Datta. According to the complaint,two firms owned by the two sons and son-in-law of Yeddyurappa received a kick-back of Rs 13 crore from a company for awarding a civil contract for the second stage of Upper Bhadra Irrigation Project during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Lakhimpur killing: Lawyers go on strike
ALLAHABAD: The high court and district court lawyers here on Monday went on strike protesting against the killing of two lawyers in Lakhimpur Kheri,involving Lekhpals. The incident had occurred in Mohammadi tehsil of Lakhimpur Kheri on September 3. The Allahabad High Court Bar Association held a meeting under the chairmanship of Bar president Umesh Narain Sharma and passed a resolution demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh each for the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh each for those injured in the incident.
Woman killed,3 hurt as earth caves in
RAMESWARAM: A woman was buried alive and three others seriously injured as earth caved in while they were desilting a tank,under the NREGS,at Kalimankundru near Tirupallani on Monday,police said. Four women were working at the spot when the earth caved in and buried one of them,killing her on the spot. The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Ramanathapuram in a serious condition,the police added.
Eleven killed in TN road mishap
TIRUCHIRAPALLI: Eleven people,including three children,were killed and 20 injured when two buses collided near Manaparai,40 km from here,on Monday. One of the buses was bound for Madurai from Chennai while the other vehicle was on its way to Manaparai when the mishap occurred,they said. Further details on the incident are awaited.
Two fishing trawlers sink in Bay of Bengal
BALASORE ORISSA: Two mechanised fishing trawlers on Monday sank in the Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions near Chandipur,about 15 km from Balasore. However,all the eight crew members of the two trawlers were rescued by other trawlers,Balaramgadi Trawler Association President Badal Das said.
IIM-Lucknow student killed in road mishap
LUCKNOW: A student of the IIM-Lucknow,was killed when a truck hit his bike near Khadri in Madiaon area here,police said on Monday. The twenty three-year- old Abhishek Goswami,a second year student,was killed on the spot in the mishap which took place on Sunday. The police are on the look out for the truck driver.
