3 intoxicated youths held in Mohali, dope test returns positive

In a continued crackdown against drug abuse, the Mohali police apprehended three youths in an intoxicated condition in Phase 6 on Wednesday evening. The action was taken around 5.30 pm by the Phase 6 police post team near Dr B R Ambedkar College, where the police were conducting a search for suspicious persons.

According to officials, the police noticed three youths sitting near a wall close to the Shooting Range Road, apparently under the influence of drugs. On spotting the police, the trio attempted to flee but were swiftly overpowered.

During preliminary questioning, the accused identified themselves as Jaspinder Singh, a resident of Phase 4, Mohali; Mohit, a resident of Palsora, Chandigarh; and Ankush Kumar, a resident of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, currently staying in Dhanas, Chandigarh.

Suspecting drug consumption, the police informed them of their legal rights under Section 50 of the NDPS Act. The accused expressed confidence in the police and consented to a personal search. However, no narcotic substance was recovered during the search.

The trio was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital, Phase 6, where dope tests were conducted. Medical reports confirmed that all three tested positive for drug consumption.

According to the report, Jaspinder Singh tested positive for benzodiazepine, buprenorphine and tramadol; Mohit for buprenorphine, morphine, tramadol and benzodiazepine; while Ankush Kumar tested positive for morphine, buprenorphine and benzodiazepine.

Following confirmation, the police registered a case against all three under the NDPS Act and placed them under arrest.
