Rajapaksa visit begins today

NEW DELHI: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrives on a three-day visit to India on Tuesday. Rajapaksa will meet President Pratibha Patil,and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday. Early resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced Tamils is likely to figure in the talks.

Anti-Naxal fight: CCS to take final call

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Security CCS will meet on June 10 to take a final call on whether to send the Army to fight Naxals,an MHA source said on Monday. Requirement of more Central forces,current shortage of the local police force and an increased use of helicopters are among the key issues to be discussed, the source said.

Come clean on IPL link: BJP to Pawar

NEW DELHI: Having already demanded his resignation over his IPL link,the BJP on Monday said Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had committed serious impropriety by not telling the nation all the facts. The party said there are reasons to believe the March resolution of City Corporation,allowing its MD Anirudhha Deshpande to bid for an IPL team in his individual capacity,was ante-dated. Pawars family owns 16.22 per cent share in the corporation.

Abducted Gujarat groom rescued

AHMEDABAD: Bharat Ghalchar,the groom who was abducted in Gujarats Banaskantha district on Sunday on his way to the brides house,was rescued from Ahmedabad on Monday. The abductors abandoned him when they saw police coming. Ghalchar was allegedly abducted by his sister-in-law Shabnams brothers Habib Shah Sai,Arif Shah Sai and their accomplices.

UK court grants bail to Tiger Hanif

LONDON: A UK court has granted bail to Tiger Hanif,wanted for his involvement in the 1993 Surat blasts that killed a girl and injured 38. Hanif fled to Britain after the blasts but was arrested by the Scotland Yard in February this year. He has been asked not to leave Lancashire other than for court appearances in London.
