3 killed in Nagpur factory blast
Nagpur: Three persons were killed and nine injured in an explosion at a steel factory here on Tuesday. Police said the explosion occurred at J D Ispat factory at Kapsi village here due to some technical problems in the blast furnace. The police have ruled out any terror attack. Forensic experts and senior police officials have rushed to the spot for investigations.
Kakru is new Andhra HC Chief Justice
New Delhi: Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru was on Tuesday appointed the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice Kakru 61,a Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court,replaces Justice A R Dave who was recently transferred as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Meanwhile,the government formally announced the transfer of Justice Nirmal Yadav,embroiled in the cash-at-door scam from Punjab and Haryana High Court to Uttarakhand High Court.
Four commit suicide in Kanpur
Kanpur: Four people committed suicide in separate incidents here,the police said on Tuesday. Forty three-year-old labourer Shravan Kumar Kamal committed suicide with wife Ram Lakshmi 37 in Bilhor area on Monday. They were depressed over non-repayment of a bank loan. Truck driver Jaswant,27,consumed poison with his 16-year-old beloved at Katra village after his parents opposed their marriage. While Jaswant died,the girl was saved. Gyanendra 13,a student of Class VIII in Burra area hanged himself after being scolded by parents for waking up late.
Kerala park to be made tiger reserve
Thiruvananthapuram: The Parambikulam wildlife sanctuary in Keralas Palakkad district,home to some of the endangered species of animals and birds,will be declared a tiger reserve on February 19 by Union Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh. It will then become the second tiger reserve in Kerala after Thekkady and 38th in the country,8221; state Forest Minister Binoy Viswam said. The sanctuary is home to animals like lion tailed macaques,Nilgiri Tahr and Gaur.
Man booked for wifes murder
Moga: Five persons were booked for allegedly killing a woman and later destroying evidence,the police said here on Tuesday. Manjinder Kaur was allegedly killed by her husband Surinder Singh,mother-in-law Harbans Kaur and sister Paramjit Kaur with two others. Surinder was married to Manjinder for past 12 years but had an illicit relationship with her younger sister Paramjit. When the victim objected,she was killed.
Russian businessman booked for murder
Panaji: A 41-year-old Russian businessman was booked on murder charges after a man,who was allegedly assaulted by the accused succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday,the police said. Alexander Borowski,who was arrested for attempt to murder,will now be charged for murder, SP north Bosco George said. Borowski 27,who runs a bar in Morjim village,had assaulted 43-year-old Ravi Shetgaonkar over a brawl on February 11,seriously injuring him.
Police notice to Sufiya Madhani
Bangalore: Police have sent a notice to Sufiya Madhani,wife of Kerala-based Peoples Democratic Party leader Abdul Nazir Madhani,in connection with its investigations into the Bangalore blasts in 2008. We have sent a notice for recording her statement, Joint Commissioner Alok Kumar said.
