Geetha Johri hurt in road accident
RAJKOT: Rajkot Police Commissioner Geetha Johri was injured when her car overturned after hitting a cow on NH 8 near Limbdi town in Gujarats Surendranagar district on Saturday night. Johri,a member of the SC-appointed SIT probing cases related to the 2002 Godhra riots,was rushed to a hospital and was later discharged. Driver and a security official,who was travelling with her,also sustained minor injuries. Johri had offered to quit SIT after personal allegation was levelled against her in connection with Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
Lalu elected RJD chief for 7th time
PATNA: Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Sunday elected unopposed as the national president of Rashtriya Janata Dal for the seventh consecutive term. Party state election officer Jagdanand Singh said only Lalu had filed nomination for the post. He will formally take over as president on January 31 at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna,Singh said.

Barua seeks separate time zone for N-E
GUWAHATI: Claiming that keeping to the Indian Standard Time had caused colossal economic losses to Northeast in the past six decades,renowned filmmaker Jahnu Barua on Sunday launched a campaign for a separate time zone for the region. Barua said loss due to unnecessary use of electricity alone worked out to about Rs 94,900 crore in the past six decades.
Woman found dead in train toilet
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Body of a 35-year old woman was found hanging inside a toilet of Malabar Express,stationed at Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station,on Sunday. The body was discovered by passengers when they boarded the Mangalore-bound train. The train,which was scheduled to leave at 6.30 pm,was delayed by two hours,officials said.
Jodhpur SDM assaulted,3 held
JODHPUR: Police have arrested three men,all in their 20s,for allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with Jodhpur SDM Anandhi,26,at Naino ke Dhani in Rajasthans Jodhpur district on Saturday.The SDM had gone there to review preparations for the ongoing Panchayat polls. She spotted a jeep,which had election posters on it but was without a registration number. When she asked some youth,who came out of the house after she enquired about the jeeps owner,to show documents and remove the posters from the vehicle,they abused and manhandled her.
Probe into gangrape of tribal women
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Police on Sunday ordered an inquiry into the gangrape of four tribal women allegedly by policemen at Bhaluguda village in Visakhapatnam district on January 22. Police had raided the village that day and claimed to have arrested nine Maoists. On Saturday,four women,reportedly relatives of the Maoists,approached local BSP leader L Rajarao,alleging they were gang-raped by the policemen. An inquiry was ordered,SP Vineet Brijlal said. ens amp; PTI
