‘Used age to evade suspicion’: 67-year-old woman arrested in Delhi for delivering illegal firearm to gangsters

During her arrest, the police recovered a consignment of illegal arms, including four semi-automatic sophisticated pistols and three extra magazines.

Stock tradingA 67-year-old woman allegedly involved in an illegal firearms trafficking syndicate supplying weapons to gangsters and hardened criminals across Delhi-NCR and adjoining states was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Saturday, said officers. The woman, identified as Rambiri, was apprehended following a drive launched by the Special Cell against arm smugglers. The operation was led by Inspector Rakesh Kumar under the supervision of ACP Rahul Kumar Singh and senior officers of the Northern Range. According to DCP (Special Cell) Krishan Kumar, Rambiri used her age as a cover to evade suspicion while transporting illegal weapons. Intelligence inputs revealed that she frequently travelled by train to Madhya Pradesh, from where she procured firearms and transported them to Delhi and Meerut for sale to criminals. During her arrest, the police recovered a consignment of illegal arms, including four semi-automatic sophisticated pistols and three extra magazines. Police said Rambiri has a long criminal history. After the death of her husband in 2003, she allegedly came into contact with habitual criminals and became part of an organised crime syndicate. In 2008, she was involved in a major bank robbery in Gurgaon involving Rs 1.48 crore and another robbery in Haridwar. In 2009, she and her associates attempted a bank robbery in Delhi’s Kamla Market. Due to her continued involvement in organised crime, a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was registered against her and her associates in 2009. She remained in judicial custody from 2009 to 2017. After her release from jail, Rambiri allegedly joined her criminal associates again and resumed illegal activities, this time focusing on the procurement and supply of firearms.
