Three more held in Turkman Gate stone pelting case, total arrests rise to 16 after anti encroachment drive near mosque
Three more persons were arrested on Saturday for their alleged involvement in throwing stones at police personnel near Turkman Gate during an anti-encroachment drive around the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque on January 7.
With the arrest of Mohammad Naved, Mohammad Faiz and Mohammad Ubaidulla – all local residents – 16 people have so far been arrested in the case.
DCP Nidhin Valsan said a hunt is on for around 10 more stone-pelters.
Trouble began after social media posts falsely claimed that the mosque was being demolished, prompting a mob to gather and later pelt stones and bottles at police personnel and MCD workers.
