Hisar LS bypoll on October 13
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced by-election to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat,which fell vacant after the death of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal,on October 13. Bypolls would also be held in five Assembly segments in different states on the same day. These are Tiruchirapalli West Tamil Nadu,Banswada Andhra Pradesh,Indira Nagar Puducherry,Khadakwasla Maharashtra and Daraunda Bihar. The counting will take place on October 15.
Adarsh: CBI to quiz Vilasrao
NEW DELHI: Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be examined as a witness by the CBI in connection with the Adarsh housing scam in Mumbai. Deshmukhs statement would also be recorded soon. He is only a witness as of now, said a CBI official.
Notice to Bihar on child labour
PATNA: The Bihar government received a notice from the National Human Rights Commission for reportedly engaging child labour during the three-day BJP state executive meet at Vaishali hotel,which concluded on Monday. The state labour department has been asked to explain how over a dozen children below 14 years of age were engaged at the BJP function to wash plates.

Shutdown in Valley over youths release
SRINAGAR: Kashmir witnessed a complete shutdown to seek the release of youths detained in various detention centres. Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani,who was placed under house arrest,had called for a two-day shutdown.
Jaya assets case adjourned
BANGALORE: A Special Court on Tuesday adjourned to September 14 the disproportionate asset case filed against Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa. Her counsel applied for two weeks adjournment in the wake of the Special Leave Petition in the SC on Monday being adjourned to September 12. Assistant Special Public Prosecutor Sandesh Chowta acceded to it,but pointed out that the SLP was adjourned at the request of the petitioners counsel.
Goa: AI plane tyres burst,none hurt
PANAJI: Around 105 passengers on board an Air India flight AI 937 from Kuwait had a close shave when the nose wheel tyres of the Airbus 320 aircraft burst while landing at the Goa airport Tuesday. The pilot immediately took the aircraft to a nearby taxiway, airport sources said,adding that none of the passengers were hurt.
Farmer protesting land acquisition dies
FATEHABAD HARYANA: A farmer sitting on a dharna along with other peasants to protest acquisition of land for the proposed nuclear power plant died on Tuesday at PGIMS,Rohtak. Gorakhpurs Ishwar Singh Siwach was shifted from the Civil Hospital,Fatehabad,to Rohtak on Monday when he complained of chest pain on Sunday,police said. He was then referred to the PGIMS,Rohtak.
