13 kanwarias electrocuted

PATNA: 13 kanwarias were electrocuted and six grievously injured when a bus carrying them from Sasaram to Sultanganj in Bhagalpur came in contact with a high voltage wire at Natwar area of Sasaram Tuesday. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered a probe by senior officials of Bihar State Electricity Board BSEB,and announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh to next of kin of each victim. The incident took place at Ahrao Bridge when an over-loaded bus,came in contact with a 11,000 volt wire because many of the passengers were travelling on its roof.

Balkrishna appears before CBI

DEHRADUN: Yoga Guru Ramdevs aide Balkrishna,who allegedly used fake educational degrees for procuring a passport,on Wednesday appeared before the CBI for questioning,in compliance with the Uttarakhand High Court. While staying the arrest of Balkrishna,the state high court had on July 29 asked him to cooperate with the CBI in investigations. The next date of hearing has been fixed for August 29. Balkrishna had gone missing from his Haridwar residence on July 25,a day after the CBI registered a case against him.

Lashkar militant arrested in Jamp;K

JAMMU: State police arrested a Lashkar militant in Jammu city on Wednesday. Identified as Mushtaq Ahmed alias Mustafa alias Master of Budhan in Reasi district,he had been operating in his native district and adjoining areas of Rajouri district since 2004. Mustafa,who had associates among Pakistani militants,escaped from an encounter with police and security forces in Reasi district during 2008,police said. At present,he was living in a Gujjar basti at Belicharana on the outskirts of Jammu city. His questioning was in progress to find out the motive of his stay in Jammu city,police added.
