23 Army officers promoted to Lt Gen

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved the promotion of 23 Army officers to the rank of Lt General,bringing in a new batch of top officers who will lead the force over the next few years. While 16 officers have been promoted in the command stream,the remaining seven have been elevated as part of the staff stream.

Air India pilots apologise to HC

New Delhi: Air India’s pilots apologised to the Delhi HC and the nation on Wednesday for a 10-day strike,which crippled the airlines’ domestic operations and stranded passengers across the country. The apology was tendered to the Bench,hearing a criminal contempt case against nine office-bearers of Indian Commercial Pilots Association.

Judge hearing Dinakaran plea ill

New Delhi: Justice GS Singhvi,the lead judge on the bench hearing Sikkim HC Chief Justice P D Dinakaran’s plea in the SC challenging his impeachment,fell ill on Wednesday,forcing the court to adjourn the session till Thursday. Earlier in the day,the bench of Justices Singhvi and C K Prasad briefly heard Dinakaran’s counsel Basava Prabhu Patil before adjourning for lunch.

Two more held in fake pilot scam

New Delhi: A trainee co-pilot with Air India was arrested for allegedly using forged marksheets to procure commercial flying licences,taking the total number of people arrested in such cases to 22. The arrested pilot,identified as Sourabh Prakash Lokhande (29),was apprehended on Tuesday.

Two held for Kaskar guard’s murder

Mumbai: Two persons were arrested Wednesday for allegedly assisting gunmen who killed driver-cum-bodyguard of Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar,a Crime Branch official said.
