Sai Baba stable,says hospital

PUTTAPARTHI: The condition of Sai Baba,who is being treated for multi-organ dysfunction,is stable. Theres an overall improvement in the functioning of all organs,though it is slow, A N Safaya,the director of Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences,said. Sai Baba,however,continues to be on ventilator and intermittent dialysis.

Plea against BSY in land deal

New Delhi: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday,challenging a Karnataka High Court stay on a trial court hearing allegations against Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and his family members in a land case. The state high court had on March 29 stayed a lower court order directing further proceedings against the Karnataka CM and his family on a petition by Yeddyurappas son-in-law Sohan Kumar.

Ex-DGP joins Peace Party

LUCKNOW: Former Uttar Pradesh director general of police Yashpal Singh on Monday joined Peace Party and was given the post of its national general secretary and spokesman. I am joining Peace Party as it is the only credible party in the state, said Singh after joining in the presence of party president M Ayub. His wife Geeta who had contested last Assembly polls on a Samajwadi Party ticket will also be joining the party.

Yasmeen Abrar NCW acting chief

NEW DELHI: Yasmeen Abrar,a member of the National Commission for Women NCW,on Monday assumed charge as acting chairperson of the NCW on completion of the tenure of Girija Vyas. The six-year tenure of Vyas ended on April 8. Abrar will hold the office of chairperson till the vacancy is filled by a fresh nomination.

I-T conducts search at Lilavati Hospital

MUMBAI: The Income Tax department on Monday conducted search and survey operations at the Lilavati Hospital and 28 other premises here in connection with alleged financial irregularities committed by its trustees and owners. The operations come in the wake of a petition filed by Delhi resident Harsh Raghuvanshi seeking investigation into alleged siphoning of funds by hospital trustees Prabodh Mehta,Rashmi Mehta,Chetan Mehta and Bhavin Mehta.

SC no to Orissa plea on Polavaram

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday turned down Orissas plea to stay construction of the controversial Polavaram dam by Andhra Pradesh and directed former Central Water Commission CWC member M Gopalakrishnan to file an independent report after inspecting the site. A Bench of Justices Mukundakam Sharma and AR Dave said Gopalakrishnan would inspect the dam along with present CWC members and submit separate reports to the apex court by July 19,the next date of hearing.
