Married man killed for eloping

RAJKOT: The body of a 35-year-old man was found from Mesava village in Rajkot district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Deva Vatia,who worked as a watchman at a Shapar-Veraval factory. While the police have lodged a case of murder against unidentified persons,their preliminary investigation revealed that Vatia was killed by the family of a 19-year-old girl,with whom he had allegedly eloped. The police said that Vatia,who was married and a father of three,had eloped with Ranjan,who worked in the same factory,on Friday.

Lelyvelds Boston event cancelled

BOSTON: Two Massachusetts groups have cancelled a jointly sponsored appearance by Joseph Lelyveld,the author of the Mahatma Gandhi biography s Great Soul. This is the second cancellation this month for the author. The book was banned in Gujarat after reviews hinted at Gandhis homosexual relationship. Puran Dang of Indian Americans of Lexington said his group wanted to avoid any controversy and decided to cancel the event.

Thieves strike at BJP MPs house

LUCKNOW: Thieves broke into the house a BJP MP in Gomti Nagar area here and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees,the police said on Sunday. The incident came to light when the caretaker residing in the servants quarters of MP Kamlesh Paswans house woke up in the morning and found the locks of the house broken. Paswan,the MP from Bansgaon parliamentary constituency of Gorakhpur,was not in the house when the incident took place.

In MP,remains of dinosaurs found

INDORE: Herbivorous dinosaurs,along with crocodile,existed in the Narmada valley around millions of years ago,according to researchers who have found remains of these two animals near here. We have found the bones of herbivorous dinosaurs and the jaw of a crocodile during excavations at neighbouring Dhar district, Vishal Verma,the head of the researchers group Mangal Panchaytan Parishad told PTI. A close look at the crocodiles jaw indicates that it was 15-ft long,he said.

SFI founder Bhaskaran dies

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: C Bhaskaran,the first president of the CPMs student outfit SFI,died in a private hospital at Chennai,sources said on Sunday. Bhaskaran 65,had been undergoing treatment for kidney ailment. He is survived by his wife Thulasi,a former journalist with the CPM daily,Deshabhimani,and two sons. Bhaskaran had been a pro-Left student activist since his school days.
