Bihar: 17 female foetuses found
PATNA: Bihar Police on Monday found 16 female foetuses in plastic jars near a high school and one on a garbage heap in Muzaffarpurs Kisanganj town. We have been questioning some private clinics8230; We have not got any lead so far. The detection of these many foetuses suggest illegal abortion has been on, said superintendent of police R K Mishra. According to the recently concluded census,the sex ration in Bihar has come down from 921 to 916.
Jamp;K sex-scandal accused file plea
CHANDIGARH: With some of the victims having turned hostile,five of the accused in the infamous Jamp;K sex scandal have moved court,seeking discharge from the trial. Former Jamp;K ministers Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Raman Mattoo,ex-bureaucrat Iqbal Khandey,former Additional Advocate General Anil Sethi,and former DSP Mohammad Ashraf Mir all of them have been charged with the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act have petitioned the Chandigarh court hearing the case to discharge them as the victims have turned hostile. The Court then directed the CBI to respond to the petition.
Man acquitted of rape charges
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has acquitted a man of rape charges after noting that the woman had consensual sex with him and was above 16 years of age. A Bench of Justices Markandeya Katju and Gyan Sudha Misra,in a judgment,however,asked K P Thimmappa Gowda to transfer within three months two acres of his land to the woman.
Cant justify fake encounters: SC
NEW DELHI: No amount of internal turmoil in the country can justify fake encounter killings by the police,the Supreme Court said on Monday and asked the Andhra Pradesh government to file a status report on the probe into the killing of an alleged Maoist leader and a journalist. A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha mulled handing over the probe to an independent agency under the supervision of the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission.
