NEW DELHI: The road transport ministry is expediting the setting up of Expressways Authority of India and plans to put up the draft proposal in the next two weeks to invite comments for setting up the authority. “We will put up the draft proposal for the Expressways Authority on our website in the next two weeks,” transport minister Kamal Nath said.

Madoff associate found dead in pool

PALM BEACH: An autopsy was planned for a man accused of making more than $7 billion off the investment schemes of jailed financial manager Bernard Madoff. Jeffry Picower was found by his wife Sunday at the bottom of a pool at the couple’s sprawling oceanside Palm Beach mansion. He died a short time later at a nearby hospital. The 67-year-old was No 371 on the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans,with a net worth of $1 billion. Palm Beach authorities planned an autopsy on Monday.

CLB allows Maytas to finalise Q2 results

MUMBAI: Crisis-hit Maytas Infra has said the Company Law Board has given time to the company to report its accounts for the quarter ending September by December 31. In a filing to the BSE,Maytas Infra said,“The CLB,vide its order dated October 23,2009,granted extension of time for publication of financial results of the company for the quarter ended September 30 up to December 31.”

Kingfisher’s Rs 3.6 cr dues to Lufthansa

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday asked Kingfisher Airlines to deposit Rs 3.6 crore with the Court Registrar towards dues to Lufthansa Technik for using its engine components. Lufthansa technik,an engineering arm of German air carrier,Lufthansa Airlines,had moved the court claiming that Kingfisher had defaulted on paying for maintenance of their aircraft.

Sensex sheds 70 pts,realty,banking hit

MUMBAI: Ahead of the RBI’s monetary policy review on Tuesday,interest rate sensitive sectors such as realty and banking shares took a severe beating today bringing down the benchmark Sensex by over 70 points. In a lacklustre trading,the benchmark index moved in a narrow range before ending at 16,740.50,down 70.31 points,or 0.42 per cent,over its previous close. Bucking the trend,some of the pharma and IT shares attracted buying.

India-Swiss talks on black money

JALANDAR: Indian and Swiss officials will meet in Geneva in December for talks on ways to get information on flow of black money from here into that country. “We are going to meet the Swiss authorities at Geneva in December this year to discuss the issue of alleged black money deposited in Swiss banks and look for how the information could be provided to India through review of double taxation treaty,” CBDT chairman S S N Murthy said.
