The master of monochrome is no more. Fifty is no age to die, life could be short but not before it is lived to the fullest. Prabuddha surely had miles to travel,so much more to do.

A few months ago,at the Delhi Photo Festival,he was his inspirational self, addressing a packed hall. In that swelling crowd,I found myself  seated on the floor, next to Prabuddhas chair.

In 1993,at his exhibition at the Piramal Art Gallery Nudes and Other Photographs,I wondered what made those photographs and his other work so original. That day, over a conversation,he told me,Neeraj, there is only one explanation to it be honest in what you do.

He was so passionate about his work, that it showed. He didnt need those extra lights, heavy makeup, umpteen props and Photoshop for his shoots. His work always reflected the love and affection he had for his subjects. From his images of Ladakh, nudes or even in his personal work,Longings, despite the perfection within the lines and compositions, there remained the unsaid, that call for curiosity. He broke rules and rubbished trends, all the way sailing into international circles. His early work and style is termed as personal photography, for its touch of originality and straight from the heart approach. It was the same honesty that reflected in his private life, his relationships and with friends.

For me,a photographer for more than two decades,I havent been up close and personal with the master, but a word that he gave me a long time ago still plays a central role in my work and life honesty.
