Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs assertion that courts should not enter the realm of policy formulation on Monday triggered a political reaction.
The BJP joined issue with the PM,contending that the apex court was not delving into policy-making but was only interpreting the constitutional provision on Right to Life. The party also took potshots at Singh for asserting that there was no disconnect between the Congress and the government.
It seems the PM has not done his homework. We would like to remind him about the polite exchange of words between Home Minister P Chidambaram and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, the red flag raised by a Congress member to Kapil Sibals Education Tribunal Bill and the war of words between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman and Surface Transport Minister Minister Kamal Nath, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Referring to Singhs assertion that he was not thinking of retiring,Prasad said,That the PM has to,at intervals, remind others of his position is astounding8230; Perhaps it is aimed not at the country but at his Cabinet colleagues.
Regarding the court direction on distribution of foodgrains to poor,Prasad said the SC has the right to interpret Right to Life as enshrined in Article 21.
