Police Friday held 11 persons in connection with Thursdays assault on Dr Dilip Dey,principal of Raiganj University College, but within hours, all were bailed out. Claiming to be traumatised and scared because the men had been freed, principal Sarkar said he had put in his papers.
The 11 have been identified as Trinamool Congress workers and were reportedly seen beating up the principal and professors of the college. While they were charged under bailable sections, the main accused,Trinamool leader Trilok Choudhury, who was named in the FIR by Sarkar, remains missing.
I am extremely traumatised. The miscreants were not my students. They beat me as if I was a thief. It is clear I was their target for some reason, said Sarkar. Accusing the police of not coming to his rescue,he said his FIR also named Trinamool leader Priyabrata Choubey. Why have neither Choudhury nor Choubey been arrested? Sarkar asked.
