A day after a youth threw cow urine on him at a function in Kolhapur,Union Heavy Industries Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Sunday said there was no need to give the incident a political colour. I dont think it has anything to do with politics. From my information, the student was mentally disturbed, said Deshmukh. But rival Shiv Sena feels such incident will become common during the election campaigning.
Immediately after the youth threw the urine at him from a glass,an unfazed Deshmukh told the Congressmen to let the youngster go. Dont beat him, allow him to go, Deshmukh shouted at the Congressmen who had pounced on the youngster. Two Congress MLAs also severely beat up the youth before he was whisked away to the police station. The youth, who was hurt after being beaten up,has been admitted to a hospital.
The police identified the youth as Ritesh Mazgaonkar 19,a Class XII science student who had come to the function along with his brother and two friends. Police said he has not yet cited any reason for the attack.
Deshmukh said though it was a one-off incident, there is also a need to be extra vigilant. Sometimes people will resort to such tricks to gain their moment of fame. That is why security personnel need to be extra alert, he said.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said her party did not approve of such acts. But such incidents will rise in the coming days as people are fed up with a non-performing government.
