Another suspect held from Kanpur

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested one more person from Kanpur in connection with the murder of Bhopal-based RTI activist Shehla Masood

The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI on Monday arrested one more person from Kanpur in connection with the murder of Bhopal-based RTI activist Shehla Masood.

In a joint operation with UP STF,the agency arrested 25-year-old Tabish from Kanpurs Bekanganj locality. He was produced before a CBI court. CBI joint director S Javeed Ahmad said the court sent Tabish to transit remand. The CBI would be taking him to Bhopal. Ahmed refused to share the role of Tabish in the murder case,saying investigation is on.

A native of Kanpur,Tabish reportedly played a vital role in the murder. He was arrested on the basis of inputs provided by Irfan,the alleged contract killer,who was arrested from Kanpur on February 28.

Irfan confessed to the Kanpur police that he and two of his friends Shanu Olanga and Saleem carried out the killing for Rs 3 lakh. The contract to eliminate Shehla was given by Shakib,a Bhopal criminal,Irfan allegedly told the police. Shakib was arrested along with interior designer Zahida Parvez in Bhopal for allegedly plotting the murder.

STF officials said,Tabish,who is cousin of Shakib,had refuted Irfans story. He reportedly told STF officials that he and Irfan executed the crime.

The police said Tabish also told them that Shakib was with them on the spot at the time of the murder.
