Cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar today indicated that all the outstanding issues pertaining to the 3G spectrum auction had been resolved, however, the auction would happen at a time when maximum revenue could be generated from it.

I dont think it really particularly matters if it happens this year or next year8230; they DoT and the finance ministry will take the decision based on how the revenue can be maximised, cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar told reporters on the sidelines of a SAARC workshop on e-governance.

He said the issues that delayed the auction process in January had been resolved but refused to give any definite timeline for the auction. He also did not specify the issues. Chandrasekhar was heading the high-level committee to monitor vacation of spectrum by the defence forces.

The exchequer is likely to garner around Rs 35,000 crore from the 3G auction as per the empowered GoM,headed by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. The proceeds would help in reducing the fiscal deficit, estimated to touch 6.8 per cent of the gross domestic product GDP in 2009-10. The 3G spectrum auction has been delayed due to differences between the finance and telecom ministries over the number of players to be allowed to offer 3G services, unwillingness of the defence ministry to release more spectrum and over the timing of the auction along with the modalities of payment by the bidders.
