Mumbaikers have earned the admiration and gratitude of the entire country. In their determination to carry on with their daily routine they have courageously defeated the terrorists and made us, as a nation, justifiably proud of them.

Through their bravery in moving on with their lives in spite of the horror, grief, shock and tension which they must have undoubtedly suffered, the residents of Mumbai have shown us that the only answer to moral cowardice is moral bravery 8212; and that they possess it in abundance.

While the cowards ran away, as they always do, Mumbaikars overcame their grief and horror through acts of compassion for their fallen and injured citizens 8212; donating blood, helping the injured, directing traffic, and now they have paid them the greatest tribute, by flocking to work as usual.

In 1942 Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India movement in Mumbai.

Today, 61 years later, the city has shown us how to root out the scourge of terrorism.

Nab the guilty

YOUR editorial on the Mumbai blasts 8216;Unmask the attacker8217;, August 26 is short and compelling when it pins the responsibility on a set of cruel people who have no mercy for innocent people.

There is either laxity in the state intelligence system or an inadequate investigative network in the Mumbai police.

Reasons are aplenty, but it is imperative that there should be a ruthless hunt to nab the scoundrels behind this cruelty.

It had to happen

HATE has been sown and hate it is reaping. A country whose politicians have tainted it through communalism, hate politics, corruption, etc, should at least realise that a continuation of slogan politics is only going perpetrate more and more violence.

Stand united

THE whole nation is shocked at this attack on innocent people. It is high time that the people of India stood united and faced the challenge posed by terrorists.

Obsolete secrets

IT is shameful that we Indians do not have the courage to tell the truth to our fellow Indians 8216;Lonely paper chase8217;, IE, August 26. The country paid a heavy price in the 1962 war. The least we deserve is the truth, the release of the Henderson-Brooks report.

It may be a slight humiliation for us if it is found that our leadership committed grave mistakes, but accepting the mistakes would enable us to move on.

Upscale Dharavi

Excellent news of the changes planned in Dharavi IE, August 25. Besides widening the roads and offering better amenities, the residents should be educated in hygienic living. Also, the transition period would be the right time to find out just how many Pakistanis and Bangladeshis live in Dharavi as in other parts of Mumbai.

Come on, don8217;t pretend to be shocked. We all know the country is teeming with illegal immigrants from these two countries 8212; with Mumbai having a major share of them.
