
Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up a task force to introduce high-speed trains like the Bullet trains of Japan and TGV of France in the Chenai-Bangalore-Hyderabad Sector.
Similar trains should be introduced in the Delhi-Chandigarh-Agra-Jaipur sector too, Maran said in a letter to the PM.
According to him, the current pace of development in IT can be retained only if there was corresponding development in infrastructure, especially transport.
8216;8216;To ensure that future generations of the country do not lag behind their counterparts in the rest of the world, the time has come for the introduction of high-speed trains in India,8217;8217; a press release, quoting Maran8217;s letter, said.
Initially, the prototype of TGV trains can be considered and transfer of technology can be resorted to at a later date, said Maran, adding that high-speed trains could be run on dedicated tracks.
