In Gayab, you romance an invisible man. In real life, could you fall in love with one?
Gayab is a fantasy film. I am also aware that such a hypothetical situation can never happen. I don’t really know.
If you were invisible, what is the one thing you would do?
I doubt I’d do very nice things. I would want to benefit from it and will let my wicked side take over. By the way, we all have a wicked side. But I’ll be damned if I tell you what I would do.
After Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, your name in Gayab is also Mohini (Dixit’s name in Tezaab). The Dixit hangover continues…
When I was doing Main… I was so into Madhuri that I couldn’t think beyond her. In fact, even before Main… got over we started with Gayab. When I was asked to come up with a name for Gayab, I said Mohini because it’s just apt for the character.
Your image is that of a thinking man’s sex symbol.
I like that. Wow. But I must add I’ve always gone for roles that require performance rather than sex appeal. I go with the character and do whatever the character tells me.
In Gayab, you have a tattoo on your right shoulder. Is that real?
Yes, that’s my Om tattoo and I got it some time back. I don’t collect tattoos and have only two.
Which is the second one and where is it?
It’s a sign of the devil and I can’t tell you where it is.
We hear that you and Abhishek Bachchan sizzle in Naach?
Lots of people said that Vivek Oberoi and I made a fantastic pair in Road and Company. I guess when a couple looks good on screen, it means the characters are meant to be. That’s what is happening between Abhishek and me in Naach.
You only do a couple of films a year. Don’t you fear missing the bus?
If I do only two films, then in 10 years I will be remembered for 20. I’d rather build my career in this fashion than just grab everything. Plus, since I change my look in every film, it isn’t possible to do too many films.
We hear you are inclined towards making films. Any announcements?
I am thinking about it. At some point of time I will direct. But I won’t be in it.
What’s the best compliment that Ramgopal Varma has given you?
Basically his compliment to me would be to offer me a film that does justice to my talent . And he has been doing that.
