Pardeep Kumar ,alias Billa, who was shot dead in Ludhiana on Wednesday.
In yet another daylight gun killing in Punjab, a local criminal was shot dead by a rival group at a public park in Ludhiana on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Pardeep Kumar alias Billa, 20, resident of Ram Nagar, was shot dead in Jamalpur by a group of three men who fired at him from close range. A bullet pierced through Billa’s head, killing him on the spot, said the police.
Inderjit Singh Boparai, Ludhiana Assistant Commissioner of Police (Industrial Area-A), said Billa was a “habitual offender” who was booked in at least six cases, including attempt to murder, rioting, among other offences.
“Prima facie, he was roaming in the park with a woman when three assailants from a rival group reached there. They had some argument which escalated, and one of them opened fire at Billa,” said ACP Boparai.
The police said that Billa was also carrying an illegal weapon, but before he could take it out, he was fatally shot.
According to the case registered at Jamalpur police station against unidentified assailants, complainant Badeshwari Prasad, Billa’s acquaintance, said he heard the sound of gunshots from the park, and when he went there, he saw Billa lying dead, and his weapon lying nearby. He added that he also saw assailants fleeing on a two-wheeler.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25, 27, 59, and 54 of the Arms Act.
Billa was wanted in connection with a firing incident on October 21, 2025, when he and his associate, Vikas, allegedly shot at a labourer, Asgar, leaving him injured.
In a series of such incidents over the past few months, Punjab has witnessed several daylight gun killings. A Congress worker was shot dead in Moga, a sarpanch was shot dead in Amritsar, and a former kabaddi player was gunned down in Ludhiana recently.
