Prasoon Joshi talks about his songs in Ghajini and how interfering Aamir Khan is

In B-town, everyone is on song, even if it is a shaven, tattooed Aamir Khan who can8217;t remember his phone number. Little wonder, Prasoon Joshi found himself penning poetry for all the brawn and brawl on display in Ghajini. 8220;It is a pacy thriller with a lot of action and high energy, but the songs are extremely important to the narrative,8221; says Joshi who has written five songs, all composed by AR Rahman, for the Khan starrer.

The film is a remake of a Tamil movie that was released three years ago, with songs written by N. Muthukumar, but Joshi says the Hindi soundtrack is completely original. 8220;I did not even listen to the southern version as I did not want to be influenced in anyway,8221; says Joshi, who, however, watched bits of the film to 8220;gather a feel of it8221;.

A little-known fact about ad man Joshi is that he is a trained classical musician who likes to compose and sing as well, but he has given them a miss in Ghajini. 8220;I think it is very important for a lyricist to have a sense of music since it8217;s then that the song shapes up wholly,8221; says Joshi. He has composed and sung jingles for Alpenliebe and Happy Dent, among others. 8220;But it8217;s not something I8217;d do for films,8221; he says.

Bollywood has heard enough complaints of Aamir Khan8217;s interference, but Joshi thinks otherwise. 8220;He is a very intelligent man and when he has a suggestion, it8217;s often valid. When it is not, we argue a lot and whoever has a more powerful logic wins. So I8217;d say there8217;s close understanding and mutual respect that allow us to bounce ideas off each other,8221; he says.

If Joshi8217;s poetry is not enough, then maybe you can watch the songs for another reason 8212; one of them has Khan sporting six different hairstyles. Guess it8217;s all relevant to the narrative.
