She is engaged to a stuffy coal company executive John Howard, but things turn tospy-turvy when her ex-husband Cary Grant arrives on the scene.
This is a perfect comedy, brimming with witty lines and superb performances. The film proved a box-office hit in 1940 and claimed two Oscars besides three more nominations. Sixteen years later, The Philadelphia Story was made into a charming musical High Society starring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly.
