KARACHI, NOV 14: Waqar Younis was axed by Pakistan today for the first Test against West Indies starting in Peshwar from Monday.

Fast bowler Waqar was among five players, including paceman Aquib Javed and wicket-keeper Rashid Latif, who were dropped from the squad on duty in the recent Jubilee Trophy four-team limited overs tournament in Lahore.

Waqar, who helped bowl Glamorgan to their first county championship title in 28 years during this year8217;s English season, was upset at the way he had been omitted.

8220;They selectors should have at least consulted me. If they have dropped me on form, its all right but I deserved a call from any of them,8221; Waqar said. 8220;We lost the third and final Faisalabad Test to South Africa by 53 runs because of our batsmen. But all of them are there except me.8221;

Waqar who took only four wickets at an average of 31 in the rain-marred series but has haul of 231 in 46 Tests, said, 8220;it8217;s not the end of the world, nevertheless, I will go back to domestic cricket and try to prove the selectors wrong. 8221; Wasim Akram, who was retained as captain said: 8220;It was a very painful decision. But he is a fine bowler and a match-winner. I am sure he will bounce back.8221;

The team: Wasim Akram captain, Saeed Anwar vice-captain, Aamir Sohail, Ejaz Ahmed, Inzamamul Haq, Mohammad Wasim, Moin Khan, Shahid Nazir, Azhar Mehmood, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad, Ali Naqvi and Arshad Khan.
