PUNE, Jan 18: Three rapid goals in five minutes towards the close proved SKF8217;s downfall as they lost to a youthful Wanowrie A8217; side while Khadki Blues blanked out Shivajians B8217; 5-1 in pool F second division encounters of the PDFA league played at the Military ground. Camp XI were awarded a walkover as Strangers failed to turn up.

Wanowrie A8217; and SKF fought an even battle for most of the duration. The second-half belonged mostly to the young Wanowrie lads as they stepped up their attacking moves but a goal eluded them.

However they capitalised on a defensive lapse and the SKF keeper Simon D8217;Gama not in line, in the 48th minute. An attempt taken by Sanjay Sneham from an angle was continued in by a header into the goal by Fayaz Sayyed. Kenneth Anthony fired the second goal in the 53rd minute from a long range attempt and two minutes later he scored his second goal lobbing the ball in over the keeper8217;s head who was caught out of position.

Chances for a place in the last four are a distant dream for both sides since they have not gained sufficient points.

Khadki Blues improved their chances to get into the super leagues with a fine 5-1 win over Shivajians B8217; ending their league encounters with 21 points. Yunus Shaikh drew first blood in the 12th minute. The lead was neutralised in the 17th minute by Gaurish Khunta. Farukh Shaikh added a second for Khadki Blues in the 20th minute. In the second-half Sagar Dongre scored a brace 40th and 45th minute and Michael Andrews rounded off the tally ten minutes before the final whistle.

The winners now await the outcome of KP XI8217;s last tie, who have eighteen points, to decide the pool F leaders. Equal points would mean taking their their goal differences into account. With a handful of matches to go in the league, most of which are of academic interest only, a somewhat clear picture is available of teams who are in the running for a place in the super leagues. Fighting for a place in the first four in the second division include SRPF, K P XI, Khadki Blues, Indrayani SC and Jolly Range Hills. Outstanding teams in the third division include Jolly Boys, Ghorpuri pool A, Fatima XI pool B, Knights XI pool C, Thundercatz B8217; pool E who should be seen in action in the super leagues.
