CHANDIGARH, July 21: Several city organisations and institutes continue to contribute towards the various relief funds set up by the government to support victims of Kargil operation.A cheque worth Rs 2 lakh was donated by the S. P. Gupta group of companies and was presented to Lt Gen. B. S. Malik, Chief of Staff, Western Command, by Surinder Bhakoo, chairman of the committee, to be forwarded to the Army Central Fund.A delegation of a non-government organisation led by Kamla Sharma, chairperson, Social Welfare Advisory Board, UT, handed over a draft of Rs 50,000 for the Command Welfare Fund.A sponsored walk to raise funds for the families of martyrs will be organised on July 24, in which as many as 700 students and staff of St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School are expected to participate.A small contribution has been made by Devika Gupta, a student of Sacred Heart High School and Nanki Makkar of Guru Nanak Public School has collected toilet items needed by the wounded soldiers. A demand draft of Rs 2,100 favouring the Army Central Welfare Fund was also handed over.A group of seven children of Sector 18 collected a sum of Rs 1,500 for the Army Central Welfare Fund.The BPL group announced that VHF band communication equipment to 12 Army hospitals all over the country would be donated. As many as 116 hand held sets will also be donated.A draft of Rs 31,000 has been contributed by officials of the District Courts.
