Stung by the Opposition8217;s criticism that the Left had lost its anti-corruption steam, the CPIM today hit back at the BJP, saying that the saffron party only wanted to score a debating point while participating in the discussion on the Volcker issue in Parliament.

8216;8216;Today, what is happening in Iraq is totally unacceptable to us, but the BJP did not speak about how the US is looting money in Iraq. The BJP is completely oblivious to what the US is doing in Iraq. They should also talk of how the US is misappropriating money,8217;8217; CPIM MP Nilotpal Basu told reporters.

He, along with Lok Sabha MP Mohd Salim, also condemned the approach of the Opposition in 8216;8216;picking up certain disruptive issues8217;8217;.

The CPIM leaders said that the BJP, while referring to the gunning down of BJP MLA Krishananand Rai in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh yesterday, sought to give it a communal colour. They also said the Opposition was questioning the government8217;s decision to locate the proposed National Institute of Science in Kolkata instead of Bhubaneswar and in the process causing bad blood between neighbouring states.

8216;8216;Whipping up such sectarian, disruptive and emotive issues is dangerous for the country,8217;8217; the leaders added.
