VADODARA, June 7: Five areas of the city falling under the roadline are still to be acquired under the Land Acquisition Act, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel said here on Saturday.
He was addressing reporters, after the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC demolished 121 pakka houses and shops under the roadline near the Railway Station. Patel said the task could be accomplished because of the joint efforts of Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, District Collector Anil Mukim and Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma. But for the police escort, the VMC would not have succeeded in carrying out the operation, he maintained.
Patel stated that the Ahmedabadi Pole-Raopura Road and area near the Pratapnagar underbridge were among the five areas falling under the roadline. He said the land would be acquired soon, but refused to give the time frame.
On the 64 shops opposite the Central ST Depot, he said as the shops were constructed by the civic body, it had initiated procedure under the Public Premises of Eviction Act to acquire land.
The shopkeepers, who were given the possession in 1960, have encroached upon the civic land by nearly 6 feet each, Patel said.
About the Central Lodge, which was left untouched in Saturday8217;s operation, he said the VMC was seeking advice from the structural engineer as it would be required to demolish the entire three-storied construction. He denied allegations that the lodge was spared due to political pressure.
