
VADODARA, June 10: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Wednesday demolished six shops in the Lakkadpitha area of the city, as they were violating the civic body8217;s road alignment norms.
The workforce from the land and estate department commercial and the encroachment removal squad led by Deputy Municipal Commissioner H S Patel took more than 10 hours to demolish the shops and clear the debris.
The demolition comes within days after the VMC razed 121 shops, houses and industrial sheds on the Railway Station road.
Armed with three trucks, four dumpers, three jeeps, a bulldozer and a loader, the operation was carried out by officers Bajrang Pardeshi, Bhargav Vyas, J M Chudgar, Shrikant Kulkarni, Bipin Shah, Arvind Patel, Kanubhai Harijan among others.
Located near the Veraimata Temple, the process to acquire the land began in 1974 after the State government gave a go-ahead to acquire the land under provisions of the Land Acquisition Act.
The award to acquire the land was declared on April 29, 1980 and the land was acquired on July 7, 1980. However, six shopkeepers moved the court.The land was acquired after the Court rejected their plea.
