VADODARA, Oct 21: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC has blacklisted the contractor who supplied adulterated cottonseed oil in municipal schools as part of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, even as the issue in which more than 400 tins of cottonseed oil were seized the other day remained in news on Thursday.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel told Express Newsline that the contractor has been blacklisted and a letter written to the District Collector stating that action could be initiated against the contractor under the Essential Commodities Act.
Meanwhile, the Scheme, which remained closed for a fortnight after the oil samples tested adulterated, restarted on Thursday. The VMC has procured the necessary cottonseed oil from the Civil Supplies Department.
Patel, who is conducting a probe, said that lapses on the part of the supervisors would be looked into.
Earlier, at the Standing Committee meeting, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria assured that action would be taken against all responsible.
The issue had come to light when Congress councillors Kanchanbhai Parmar and Chirag Zhaveri made surprise checks in the municipal schools and compelled the administration to seize the stock of oil tins.
At the meeting, Committee members Sadanand Desai and Kiran Gurjar demanded a probe into the incident and stated that had the Municipal Commissioner initiated necessary supervision, such an incident could have been prevented. They demanded that the probe report should be submitted in the next Committee meeting.
Gurjar came to loggerheads with another member, Maganbhai Desai, when the former said that it was the responsibility of the principals to ensure that such things don8217;t happen. Desai took this personally since his wife is a municipal school principal.
Municipal School Board chairman Kishan Sheth and members Gulam Memam and Kamal Pathak have also demanded a probe.
The Congress reiterated their threat to launch an agitation if action was not initiated against those responsible.
