PUNE, Oct 23: With no end in sight to the transporters8217; strike which entered its third day today, many now feel that instead of further delay, both the Government and the truck operators should settle the issue amicably.

8220;The issue should be resolved through discussions rather than resorting to threats causing loss to traders and consumers,8221; a trucker said speaking to The Indian Express. The transporters are protesting against the hike of 40 per cent in diesel prices.

Albeit, the situation remaining unchanged on Saturday with the city markets continue to face shortage of vegetables, the Government figures show that striking transporters were mustering response in Solapur, Satara and Sangli districts.

The district collectorate, meanwhile, has initiated steps to persuade the vegetable growers from the hinterlands of the district to bring their produces to the market. 8220;They the growers will be provided vehicles and police protection whenever necessary,8221; deputy commissioner supplies Shankarrao Satav said.
