MUMBAI, March 12: The University of Mumbai will be setting up an enquiry committee to look into allegations of sexual harassment and immoral conduct against Bombay University College Teachers8217; Union BUCTU leader Professor C R Sadasivan.

The NSUI made the demand for an inquiry based on a letter the union received, citing specific instances where Prof Sadasivan had allegedly misused his office as a union leader to claim bribes and sexual favours. According to the anonymous letter received by the union, Prof Sadasivan had allegedly not taken cognisance of several complaints by teachers, and had colluded with principals who were his friends. The BUCTU leader had also demanded several thousands as bribes from various teachers, the letter claims.

Prof Sadasivan however denied the allegations. 8220;It is all bluff, I don8217;t know about any of these incidents,8221; he added. Dharna against anti-women policies of LIC

Members of National Federation of Insurance Field Workers of India NFIFWI, an organisation of development officers of Life Insurance Corporation LIC, have launched an agitation against LIC8217;s 8220;anti-women attitude and actuarial problems.8221;

The zonal secretary of the federation, Mihir Lokhandwala, said that as a first step of the agitation, massive demonstrations will be staged in front of LIC headquarters Yogakshema8217; near Mantralaya on Monday.

8220;The LIC, in view of threat of privatisation of the insurance sector, is becoming more and more conservative instead of liberalising its age old procedures. Proposals for insurance on the lives of unmarried women, widows and housewives are being viewed with suspicion,8221; Lokhandwala said.

He added that NWIFWI secretary general Anand Tyagi would lead the demonstrations on Monday. All development officers of LIC working in Mumbai and Thane and their agents will participate in the demonstrations. They will be joined by members of women8217;s organisations and consumer forums.
