A 24-year-old man from Khole Passi Bate Galowal village of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district has died under mysterious circumstances in Italy, barely five months after moving abroad in pursuit of a better future.

The deceased, Twinkle Randhawa, 24, had gone to the Italian city of Lido di Lavinio last year. His sudden death has left his family and the entire village in shock.

His father, Jagir Singh, who works as a driver, said the family is financially weak and had taken loans to send Randhawa abroad. “We have two sons, and Twinkle was the younger one. I spoke with him just two days ago on the phone; he sounded very happy,” Jagir Singh told media persons.

The family was informed about Randhawa’s death on Sunday morning by other Punjabi youths who were staying with him in Italy.

“We suspect something has gone wrong. He was absolutely fine when we last spoke,” the grieving father said, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

The family has urged the Central and Punjab governments to ensure a proper probe into the incident and extend assistance in bringing Randhawa’s mortal remains back to India. They said they wish to perform his last rites in Punjab as per traditional Punjabi customs.
