
MUMBAI, DEC 26: The Variyar twins 8212; Mugdha and Purva 8212; the top two seeds in the under-12 girls kept a clean slate after two rounds, winning both rounds in the Parle G Inter-Schools Chess Festival being conducted by the Bandra Chess Club and being held at St. Stanislaus ground, Bandra here today.
Mudgha, who won the under-12 title in the Bournvita Chess Tournament, defeated Gauri Rao on the top board while Purva, playing white won against Janhavi Lakshmi.
Most of the other seeded players had an easy time and the only upset happened in the under-8 boys section where Kaustubh Thipsay, the second seed lost to Joshua Michael.

Roylers Juhu defeated Voltas SC 3-2 in the New India Insurance Second Division WIFA league match at the Cooperage today. For Roylers, Steven D8217;Souza, Rembird Fernandes and Santan Rodrigues scored a goal each while Clyde D8217;Souza and A Fernandes scored consolation goals for Voltas SC.
In another match, Atlas SC got past Mahatma SC 4-2 via tie-breaker 1-1 full time in the IIIrd Division Fr Agnel WIFA league match. Chetan Goria scored for the winners while Clifford Pereira did thesame for Mahatma SC.In tie-breaker, Chetan Goria, Nitesh Goria and Anand Poojary scored for Atlas. Only Allan Mendes could score from the spot for Mahatma.

Dr Ambedkar, Kirti and Ruia clinched titles in junior college, senior college boys and junior college in Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi Tournament conducted by Maharashi Daynand College.
In junior boys, Dr Ambedkar College scored an easy 33-22 win over Maharashi Dayanand. Kirti defeated Dr Ambedkar 47-8. In girls, Ruia avenged their defeat, beating Ruparel 26-25.
