CHANDIGARH, Aug 11: Varinder Dangi of Panchkula took just over 30 seconds to enter the semifinals of the lightwelter weight category in the senior group of the Haryana State 31st senior, 26th junior and 14th sub-junior championships at Haryana Model School, Sector 10, Panchkula today.

Virender8217;s experience paved the way for victory over Mandeep Gaur of Ambala in the opening seconds of the first round. Before Mandeep could settle down, a flurry of punches landed on his face which forced the referee to count and simultaneously stop the contest.

Most of the bouts, however, continued to be one-sided in the senior as well as in the sub-junior category.

However, the most exciting bout of the day was between Jitender of Bhiwani and Jai Pal of Hisar in the feather weight category. Both the contestants had an equal share of punches in the first two rounds. Jai Pal dominated the third round, but it was Jitender who had more scoring blows to his credit in the next two rounds which earned him a berth in the semis.

In the sub-junior category, Azad of Panchkula outclassed Lokesh of Faridabad in the first round to enter the finals of the F-8 group 36 kg to 39 kg.
