
JDA members to visit capital
Representatives of the Junior Doctors8217; Associations of Surat, Jamnagar and Vadodara government hospitals plan to call on the authorities at Gandhinagar on Tuesday to press for a hike in their stipends, a press note said. Junior doctors have been on strike since September 7 in support of a stipend-hike. Though the junior doctors are holding what they call 8220;parallel OPDs8221;, patient attendance has been negligible at the wards and OPDs at all the three hospitals.
AIDS awareness
District Collector Anil Mukim, while presiding over a meeting on Monday, exhorted senior health department officials and other agencies to spread awareness about AIDS. Addressing the gathering, co-ordinator of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation8217;s Aids Control Committee Vibhuti Shah said a 15-feet-tall effigy of AIDS would be set on fire at the Polo Ground on Dussehra.
Child contest
A healthy child contest will be organised at the Jamnabai General Hospital soon, according to an official statement issued here on Monday. Interested parents can enroll their entries at the hospital on Tuesday morning from 10 am, the statement said.
Garba contest
Navrachana Sanskar Kendra, a city-based organisation, will organise Winners 8217;98, an open Baroda Garba competition, on October 1 at the Laxmi Vilas Palace Ground. Prizes will be given in three categories, N J Patel and Satish Shah of the organisation said. Entry forms are available from Sadamangalam, opposite Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh or United Aarkee Garba Ground, Laxmi Vilas Palace Compound between 7 pm and 1 am. The last date to submit entries is Wednesday.
Official8217;s visit
Suryakant Acharya, vice-president of the Gujarat State Planning Commission will visit Vadodara on Tuesday. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with senior officials at Circuit House at noon and discuss development plans, according to an official statement.
