
Stone-throwing in Godhra
An altercation between a woman customer and a banana vendor over the quality of fruit flared into an exchange of stones and other missiles between members of two communities in the Zahurpura vegetable market of Godhra town on Sunday evening.
According to the Godhra police control room, the vendor replied offensively when the woman inquired about the price of the bananas. Her complaints reportedly had no effect, so she left and returned with her husband and some others. The vendor also had gathered some supporters. A verbal duel between the two groups escalated into a stone-throwing incident, the police said, adding that they dispersed when the police arrived.
Engineers’ Day
The Engineers’ Association of Indian Railways recently celebrated the Engineers’ Day to mark the 137th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna M Vishveshwariah. Delivering a lecture on `Rail Engineers: Face with New Technology’, EAIR Zonal President D R Pandey observed that in a resource crunch situation, significant savings in investments and costs of operation, along with improvement in quality of service can be realised by inducting modern technology.
School wins
Kalrav School, Halol, secured the first position in the field of Quality Circle, for their case study on school bags. Managing Director of Baroda Dairy R Mathur gave away the Shastri Trophy to the students at the IXth annual convention on Quality Circles.
Garba contest
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has organised a garba competition at the Gandhi Nagar Gruh from October 2. Winners will get cash prizes while an amount of Rs 501 will be given to students of the Nari Suraksha Kendra and the Blind Girls’ School. Winners can also participate in the state-level contest. Forms may be collected from the VMC’s public relations department between September 21-25.
Musical morning
A musical morning will be organised by student union leaders of the M S University in the Faculty of Technology, Kalabhavan on Monday at 10.30 a.m. to usher in the Navratri festival.
