
Training Course
As part of a Central government scheme to provide means of livelihood to unemployed youth, the district administration will conduct a one-month vocational training programme for youth belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes from July 1. According to a statement issued by the district employment office, stenography, English typing, a simple English course and general knowledge will be taught during the month-long programme.
Those interested and having cleared the SSC examinations may contact the regional employment office, above Priya Hotel in Athwa Lines. A monthly stipend of Rs 100 besides stationery will be provided free-of-cost.
Environment Day
Reliance Industries Limited at Hazira planted saplings and held a number of functions as part of the World Environment Day celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, company president H S Kohli stated that although rules and laws concerning environment were not implemented strictly and observed the way they should be, it was the moral responsibility of every citizen to contribute towards the cause. GPCB Regional officer J B Patel, who was also present at the function, said the present generation8217;s contribution will be useful for generations to come. A number of competitions were also held and prizes given to winners, the release added.
Computer lab
The Deaf and Dumb School, located in the Athwa Lines area of the city, was gifted with a computer lab by the Rotary Club of Surat Seaface on Sunday. The lab was inaugurated by SMC Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan at a function held at its premises at Ambikaniketan in Athwa Lines on Sunday.
District governor of the club Dr Manoj Desai was also present for the function. Addressing the gathering, speakers, while thanking the club for its social service, said that all help should be extended to the physically challenged.
Fair price shops
The district administration has invited applications from interested persons, co-operatives and registered institutions who wish to open fair price shops in villages of Mahuva taluka of the district. A release issued by the district supplies officer said that all those interested may contact the Mahuva Mamlatdar8217;s office on or before June 15.
