Accused in assault case in custody
All the eight accused arrested in connection with the assault on one Shabbir in the Aradhana talkies on Sunday night have been remanded to judicial custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate A G Vasa on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Shabbir, who was admitted to SSG Hospital, was stated to be on the mend.

Workers8217; dharna
More than 60 workers, retrenched recently by the Ajwa Fun World management, have launched a dharna under the banner of Maha Gujarat General Kamdar Sabha in front of the district collectorate demanding action against the management. A Sabha press note said the workers had not been given any notice or financial relief prior to termination. The workers and their family members, the press note said, were now struggling for survival.

Two youths held
Two youths in their mid-twenties, both identified as migrant casual labourers, were arrested near the Harinagar water tank on Gotri Road with a 0.12 bore countrymade pistol on Monday evening during a drive against anti-social elements. The youths have been remanded to a two-day custody.

Joshi resigns
Mayor Umakant Joshi and Deputy Mayor Ajit Patel on Tuesday resigned from the Standing Committee of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation in accordance with the BJP8217;s one man-one post policy. The set-up of the party8217;s co-ordination committee continues to be the same.

Jeep found
The Karjan police have found a jeep believed to have been used in looting the manager of the Dabhoi-based Madhav Magan Courier Services Shankar Chaturbhai Patel on July 9 on the Ganthara-Karwan road. The jeep8217;s registration number had been distorted, the police said on Tuesday.
