
City Youth Congress holds dharna against fare hike
The Vadodara city Youth Congress on Thursday held a dharna near the railway station to protest against the recent fare hike announced by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation. A press release issued here claimed that the agitators blocked bus services for over an hour. Later addressing the gathering, city YC unit president Naval Bajaj said the recent hike would be an unbearable burden on commuters. He threatened that the Youth Congress would intensify its stir if the state government did not roll back the fare hike.
MGM School to hold quiz contest
The Science Club of MGM School will organise an inter-school science quiz on Friday. The categories include the Marg Recorio Rolling Trophy for secondary and higher secondary sections and the IPCL Trophy for the juniors. The quiz will be held at the General Education auditorium of the M S University. Dean, faculty of Science of MSU, Bonny Pilo will be the chief guest. About 15 schools are expected to participate in the quiz.
School honours Principal Kothari
The Shree Krishna Vidyalaya held a programme on Thursday to honour Principal Dr Yogesh Kothari, who received the President8217;s Award for the best teacher. Present on the occasion, among other dignitaries, was corporator Anuj Patel.
Customs amp; Central Excise reorient
The Internal Audit Department of the Customs and Central Excise Commissionerate, Vadodara, has reoriented its working in accordance with the Citizens8217; Charter and the Department8217;s vision and strategy. According to Commissioner S K Bhardwaj, the department is now approaching assessees to seek their option about the date/time of audit. Bharadwaj said skills of the staff in the areas of public relations, financial accounting, cost accounting and auditing have been upgraded by special training sessions conducted by the Commissionerate in association with the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, Vadodara chapter.
Homoeopath receives award
Dr Mukesh Batra, a leading homoeopath, was recently honoured with the 8220;Achiever of the Millennium Award8221;. The award was given away to him by former Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mukthar Abbas Naqvi at a recent function in New Delhi. Dr Batra is chairman-cum-managing director of Positive Health Clinic in Vadodara.
Temple makes it to Guiness book
The Guiness World Records 2000-Millennium Edition has mentioned the Swaminaryan Temple in Neasden, London as the largest Hindu Temple outside India. Under its section Architects and Master-Builders the edition has termed Pramukh Swami as a master builder in its section titled knowledge8217;. This book will go to 70 countries with editions in 22 languages.
City BJP to host State body meet
The Vadodara unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party will host the State executive body meeting on October 30. According to party leaders here, all the 20 MPs, including the five Union ministers from Gujarat, besides Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel are likely to participate in the meeting. The meeting is schedule4ed to take place at the Milan Kunj Community Hall, Alkapuri.
